I'm thinking.... compromise

Tis altijd een beetje schipperen in een interieur. Je vindt iets mooi, komt enthousiast thuis en je partner zegt 'hmmm' en niet meer dan dat! Ik heb dus voor mezelf al besloten dat de dag dat mijn lief thuis komt en zegt 'schat, ik wil een bar in huis' dan zeg ik 'hmmm, [korte onderbreking van stilte] ok! maar dan mag ik em inrichten'. Rampampam... en dan komen deze prachtige Muuto stoelen zo via de voordeur naar binnen. Moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik ook al eens gezegd heb dat hij best een drumstel in een kelder mag en dat hij daar een gratis spiegelwand bij krijgt. Ik snap gewoon dat je soms het kind in jezelf moet koesteren.
Decorating a house together is always a matter of compromises. You like something, you come home filled with enthousiasm and your partner only responds with a 'hmmm'. I've made up my mind that if ever my Mr Lover comes home with the idea of wanting a bar in our home my response will be 'hmmm, [sort pause of silence] ok! But I get to decorate it!' And shazaaaam! That's when these beautiful Muuto barstools will find a special place into our home. Must admit that I've also once promised him that if we ever have a basement in a home that he can have drums there and I'll throw in a mirrored wall so that he can see himself play the drums. What can I say... I understand cherishing the kid in yourself.

The blog Weekdaycarnival is a never ending source of inspiration. Like the geometric wall. Such a precise work and what subtle colors used. A nice statement in your interior. Wishing for a wishbone chair

Liefde voor de Wishbone Chair van Hans Wegner voelde ik al een tijdje maar in deze kleurcombinaties wordt het houden van. Wat een prachtige serie zo bij elkaar. Zal nog wel even 'wishing for a wishbone chair' blijven maar als het ooit zover komt dan zal het in deze kleuren zijn.
The love for the Wishbone Chair by Hans Wegner has been there for quite some time but in these color combinations the affection grows much deeper. I love this series. I'm sure it will remain 'wishing upon a wishbone chair' for a little while longer. But when the time comes these will be the colours.

Love for OK design furniture

 

 

Na de pastel blogpost van gisteren krijg ik zin om even de hele collectie van OK design uit Denemarken te laten zien. Niet in het minst omdat het fijne producten zijn maar zeker ook omdat de styling fijn is. Persoonlijk kende ik alleen de acapulco chair maar ik moet zeggen dat de tafel ook fantastisch mooi is. After the blog with pastels from yesterday I feel like sharing the full collection of OK design from Denmark. Not at the least because I like the products also because I love the styling. Personally I only knew the Acapulco chair but I must say I LOVE the table shown in the pictures above. 

No room to be narrow minded here

Hoe zou het zijn om te wonen in het smalste huis van de wereld? The Keret House in Polen is op z'n smalste deel 92 cm en en 152 op het breedste deel. Gebouwd tussen twee gebouwen in. Daar waar wij denken een fietsgangetje denkt een architect 'zou een woning kunnen worden'. Bizar!
Imagine what it would be like to live in the worlds smallest (or narrowest) house. The Keret House in Poland has a minimum of 92 cm and a maximum of 152 cm width. Build between two buildings on a spot where most of us would think it's a pathway through and an architect thought 'that could be someones home'. Bizar! It may be a narrow house but you cannot be narrow minded to live here.

Come fly with me Sanna Annukka

Sanna Annukka is een Finse ontwerpster die je misschien al wel kent van haar werk voor Marimekko. Maar ze heeft ook een eigen collectie met prachtige prints en houten design voorwerpen. Hier zijn drie nieuwe prints uit haar webshop. En ze heeft meer moois voor ons in petto. Vanuit haar nieuwe eigen print studio in Brighton zal ze blijven verrassen met nieuwe screenprints. En eind 2012 mogen we ons ook weer verheugen op een nieuwe lijn bij Marimekko.
If you know Marimekko you've probably also heard about one of their designers, Sanna Annukka. Besides her great designs for them she also has her own webshop with screen prints and great wooden objects. Working from a new print studio in Brighton she has more great things in store for us. Such as a new line at Marimekko for end of 2012, I can't wait!

Doe mij maar zo'n souvenir

Als je niet al naar Italië op vakantie gaat zou je het alsnog wel willen om deze prachtige meubels eens 'in real life' te zien. De designs van Eumenes zijn duidelijk geinspireerd door klassieke design stukken en allen voorzien van een eigen moderne twist en kleur. Bankjes, LEUK! Stoeltjes, LEUK! Mix van kleuren in onderstel en zitting, LEUK! Alleen de tafel... die spreekt mij persoonlijk iets minder aan.

If you haven't planned a trip to Italy already you'ld be tempted to go just to see these furniture up close. The designs by Eumenes are inspired by some iconic design pieces. But have their own look and a great selection of colours. I love the sofa, I love the chairs and I love that you can mix and match the colours of seating and the legs. The only thing that doesn't really do it for me personally is the table.  

Envy and curious

Bij dit huis van Norm Architect wordt ik zowel jaloers als heel nieuwsgierig. Want in wat voor geweldige omgeving staat dit strak vormgegeven naturel huis. Die raampartij bij de eetkamer ziet er super uit. En de reflexie in het glas en doorkijk ramen bij de keuken doen vermoeden dat het een een groene, boomrijke omgeving staat. Als ik er zou wonen zou ik het waarschijnlijk al snel vol hebben met ABC fisher price letters op de ijskast, kleurrijke posters op de muur, bloemen op de tafel en comfortabele kussens in de bank. Maar dat hebben de bewoners wellicht inmiddels ook wel gedaan.

Looking at this house by Norm Architect I feel both envy and curiosity. The reflections in the window of the dining room and the see through window in the kitchen indicate that this amazing designed house must be located in a green natural surrounding. Most likely, if I would live here, the fridge would have magnets and Fischer price ABC all over it, the walls would be covered in colorful posters and the sofa would have comfy cushions. Maybe the residents have done the same by now.

Speechless zo mooi!

De ontwerpen van Meyer Lavigne krijgen mij echt sprakeloos. Zoals deze 'Happy Days' serie. Ik zou ze ALLEMAAL wel willen hebben. 
If you want to have me speechless show me some Meyer Lavigne designs. Like these above called 'Happy Days'. I want them ALL! 

Eindelijk ook in Nederland verkrijgbaar!

Eindelijk ook in Nederland bij een webshop verkrijgbaar. Heb er zelf met Lille Lykke vaak naar staan kijken en op mijn persoonlijk wish and want list staat de zwarte vierkante met 4 kaarsen al heel lang. En nu, in Rotterdam, slechts 10 straten bij me verwijdert te koop bij de webwinkel Nordic Blends. De kandelaars en schalen van het Deense By Lassen. Voor mij zijn dit klassiekers net als de houten aapjes van Kaj Bojesen. Mooi tijdloos design waar je niet op uitgekeken kunt raken.


Finally online available in the Netherlands. I've thought of putting them in the Lille Lykke collection many times and the black 4 candles stand is definately on my wish and want list. And now I don't have to travel to Denmark for them (which is never a punishment don't get me wrong!). They're available in Rotterdam (about 10 streets from where I live) in the online shop Nordic Blends. For me these items are like the wooden monkey by Kaj Bojesen. Timeless design that you'll treasure and enjoy for many years to come.

Wil je een fijne, multi inzetbare opberger die ook nog een feest is om naar te kijken... zoek dan niet verder! Dutch Design Week

Afgelopen zaterdag ben ik naar de Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven geweest. En dag vol indrukken en inspiraties en helaas een portemonnaie niet dik en gevuld genoeg om mijn favorieten meteen mee te nemen. Na een gesprek met een ontwerpster van fantastische lampen kom ik tot de ontdekking dat ook deze ontwerpers daar wel eens mee te kampen hebben. Alleen zij ruilen hun beauties dan en krijgen ze alsnog in hun bezit. Onderaan deze blogpost ook een paar links naar mooie pinterest en blog pagina's met fijne DDW beelden.
Last Saturday I visited the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. A day filled with impressions and inspirations. Unfortunately my wallet wasn't filled enough to bring home my favorites spotted during that day. After a chat with a designer of very beautiful lamps I came to the understanding that they themselves also experience that 'problem' but they solve this by exchanging their beauties. Deense design meubels

Op mijn wekelijkse rondje langs mijn 'we read' blogs kwam ik deze geweldige foto's en meubels tegen van NORM architects, de Craft collection. Het zou me niet verbazen als dit ook weer zo'n tijdloze klassieker gaat worden. Prachtig hoe de poten een mix zijn van dikker en dunner en alle poten onderaan afgerond zijn.

On my weekly round of visits to the 'we read' blogs I'm always curious what I'll come across. Happy to find these Danish designs from NORM architects, the Craft collection. I wouldn't be surprised if this would be the next classic. Love how the legs are a mix of wide and narrow and they all are rounded of.

A new love for Meyer-Lavigne

Ken je Meyer Lavigne al? Mogelijk ben je een van hun beschilderde borden al eens ergens tegen gekomen maar dit duo doet nog zoveel meer. Naast de Meyer Lavigne shop met allemaal alledaagse gebruiksvoorwerpen die ware kunstwerken zijn werken deze design dames ook als succesvol stylistes voor diverse Deense woonbladen. En dit met een stijl die mij persoonlijk zeer aanspreekt. Het gedateerde alledaags maken.
Have you 'met' Meyer Lavigne? It could be that you've seen one of their beautiful painted plates online. But this creative duo does so much more. Aside from their work of artsy everyday products that you can buy online in their Meyer Lavigne shop they also are succesful stylists for Danish interior magazines. I personally really like their style where they take objects from the past and make them fit in an interior today.

Soul birds by Sanna Annukka

De soulbirds van Sanna Annukka zijn prachtig om te zien, maar er zit ook nog een mooi verhaal achter. Hoe men vroeger een houten vogel naast het bed bewaarde om de ziel van de slapende persoon te bewaken. De vogels zijn in een gelimiteerde oplage geproduceerd en de voorraad van 2010 is erg hard gegaan. Ben je voor de vogel gevallen dan zou ik ook zeggen, sla snel toe want voor je het weet is ie weer gevlogen... Naast de collectie vogels zijn er ook mooie kandelaars.

The soulbirds by Sanna Annukka are not only beauties to the eye but they also come with a great story. It is an ancient belief that the soulbirds should be kept by the bedside to keep your soul safe during sleep. If you like these birds I would suggest you order one soon as they come in limited quantities and the 2010 version had sold out very quickly. Make sure you also check out the wooden candle stands.
